Turn an Instagram reel, TikTok, Pinterest pin or YouTube video into step-by-step instructions
A craft reel shows the finished piece in thirty seconds and skips most of how it was made. Share it into Hobbing and it becomes a roadmap: every step in order, the supplies you need checked against what you already own, and a picture of what each step should look like when it is done.
Why a saved tutorial is so hard to follow
Social tutorials are edited to be watched, not followed. The video is sped up, the caption is a line over music, and the moves that matter happen between two cuts. The supply list, when there is one, names a brand you cannot find. So the reel gets saved, and saved again, and never made.
Hobbing reads the post the way a patient friend would: the caption, the video itself, the page the creator links to, and the picture of the finished piece. Then it writes down everything a beginner needs, including the steps the post skipped.
How it works
On a phone, tap Share on the post and pick Hobbing. In a browser, copy the link and paste it into "Make one from a link" on the Roadmaps tab. A minute or two later the roadmap opens by itself.
- It reads every source the post has. The caption, what is said and shown in the video (an Instagram reel or a TikTok is always watched, because a craft reel's method is usually only on screen), and the creator's own write-up when the post links to one.
- It fills the gaps. Every part of the finished piece gets a step that makes it, so a stem that only appears on the finished pumpkin, or a change that happens between two cuts, is explained rather than assumed.
- Each step is small enough for one sitting, with one thing to do and the moment in the source video that shows it.
- Every step gets a picture of what done looks like, drawn for your project, so you can compare your work with it.
- The supplies are pulled out, matched to real products in your country's store, and checked against what you said you already have.
- The original post stays the first step, so the creator is credited and her video plays right there.
Which links work
A YouTube video, an Instagram post or reel, a TikTok, a Pinterest pin, or any public web page, such as a blog tutorial. A pin that is only a picture and a link is read through to the write-up behind it. Private posts, deleted posts and posts only visible when signed in cannot be read.
Hobbing builds roadmaps for the crafts it teaches: scrapbooking first and deepest, with watercolor, journaling, crochet and ceramics. A link outside them (a great sourdough reel, say) is turned down rather than turned into a roadmap we cannot stand behind. The full list of reasons a link can be refused is at https://www.hobbing.ai/help/roadmaps-from-links#link-refused.
When the roadmap gets something wrong
Tap the thumbs down under "Did we get it right?", say what was off (a missing step, a missing supply, the order, too hard, not what the post shows), and rebuild it. Each roadmap made from a link can be rebuilt three times, and a rebuild never counts against your allowance.
What it costs
A free account makes 5 roadmaps from links, with no credit card. Premium makes up to 30 a month, with a picture for every step. The prices are at https://www.hobbing.ai/pricing.
The first 100 people to subscribe, on the web or in the apps, are founding members and pay half price, 50% off, for their whole first year: $9.99 a month, or $59.99 for the first year, then the regular price.
Start at https://app.hobbing.ai and share the post you saved most recently.
