Hobbing

Craft ideas from the supplies you already have

A drawer of paper, a tin of washi tape, half a skein of yarn: most people who want to make something already own enough to start. Hobbing works the other way round from a shopping list. Tell it what you have and it suggests the projects that leave the least to buy, then plans each one around what is already on your shelf.

Why starting from your supplies works

The quickest way to stall a new hobby is buying for it. A tutorial's supply list assumes you are starting from nothing, so the first evening goes on an order rather than on making, and the box that arrives is half things you already had.

Starting from what you own turns that around. The first project is one you can begin tonight, and the only things you buy are the ones that finish the piece.

Ask Daisy what you can make

Open the Daisy tab and tap "What can I make with what I have?", or ask her in your own words. If you have already told Hobbing what you own, she starts from that; if not, she asks, naming the supplies most roadmaps use.

Every roadmap plans around what you own

Every supply a roadmap uses is in one list, grouped by the stage that first needs it. Tick each one Have or Need. What you have is never asked about again, on that roadmap or any other step that uses it, and "I have all of these" answers the rest in one tap.

What you need goes on one shopping list across all your roadmaps, with a suggested product and a link where we found one. Optional supplies are kept apart, so you can see what the piece really needs. Hobbing is not a shop: we point you at the thing, and you buy it wherever you like.

Your supplies differ from the tutorial's? Ask Daisy on the step, "my glue is different", and she suggests a swap.

It works on a post you saved, too

Share a reel, a TikTok, a pin or a blog post into Hobbing and the roadmap it builds lists every supply the project takes, checked against what you said you have. The details are at https://www.hobbing.ai/use-cases/turn-a-tutorial-into-steps.

What it cannot do yet

Supplies are matched by name, so "glue" counts for PVA glue but not for a glue stick, which is a different thing. Optional supplies never count for or against a roadmap. Hobbing does not look at a photo of your shelf.

Your Have and Need answers are kept on the device you gave them on, for now. Your roadmaps and progress follow your account everywhere; the supply answers do not yet.

What it costs

Daisy, the supply list and 3 roadmaps are free, with no credit card. Premium unlocks every step of every roadmap and up to 15 roadmaps a month. The prices are at https://www.hobbing.ai/pricing.

The first 100 people to subscribe, on the web or in the apps, are founding members and pay half price, 50% off, for their whole first year: $9.99 a month, or $59.99 for the first year, then the regular price.

Begin at https://app.hobbing.ai and ask Daisy what you can make with what you have.
