How does a roadmap work?
A roadmap is a path of stages and steps that ends in one finished piece. Each step is small enough for a single sitting. Tap the step that is pulsing on the path (your face sits on its corner) to open it, do it, and mark it done; your token hops to the next one.
The "Up next" bar takes you straight to the step you are on, and the progress bar at the top shows how much of the path is behind you.
What are the different kinds of step?
Each step on the path is labelled with what it asks of you:
- Watch: a video, often the post you shared, with the stretches that matter lit on its seek bar.
- Read: an article or the creator's own write-up, with Daisy's summary of it first.
- Make: a short walk through the making, page by page, with a picture of each part.
- Listen: something to listen to.
- Check-in: photograph your work so far, and Daisy tells you what is working and what to adjust before you go on.
- Trace or Print: a template for a design a later step asks you to copy. It is optional.
- Milestone: the finished piece, and a photo of it for your journal.
Can I skip a step?
Yes. Open the step and tap "Skip this step". A skipped step is marked on the path, and you can tap it any time to pick it up again. Your progress counts skipped steps as behind you, and says how many you skipped.
Why are some steps locked?
Two reasons. Steps open in order, so the ones ahead of you unlock as you finish the ones before them. And on the free plan, the advanced stages of a roadmap are part of Premium: they are marked "Premium, tap to unlock" on the path.
Your first roadmap's opening steps are never behind the paywall.
How do check-ins and photo feedback work?
At a check-in step, take a photo of what you have made so far. Daisy compares it with the step's goal, and with the picture of what that stage should look like, and tells you what is working, what to adjust, and where to look back if something went wrong.
Milestone photos go into your journal, under "Your work", so your own finished pieces become what you scroll.
What is "Trace it"?
Some steps ask you to copy a design: a motif, lettering, a shape to cut. Instead of drawing it freehand, tap "Trace it" on the picture. Hobbing draws a clean outline of it, and gives you two ways to copy it:
- On glass: on a phone or tablet, the camera shows your paper with the design laid over it, so you draw on the paper what you see on the screen. On a computer, the design shows bright on a white screen for paper laid over it. Pinch to size it, then lock it; a long press on the lock lets go.
- Print it: a page sized for your paper, with dark or faint lines (faint ones disappear under paint, so the print can become the piece).
How do I start a roadmap again?
Open your progress (tap the progress bar at the top of the roadmap) and choose "Restart roadmap". This clears every finished step, your feedback and where you left off, and cannot be undone.
The video goes too fast. What can I do?
Many steps point at the moments of the video that are the actual lesson: they are lit on the seek bar and listed as cards you can tap to jump to. You can also ask Daisy about the bit you are stuck on, and she knows which step you are watching.
The rectangle button switches the player between tall and wide, for videos filmed sideways. The screen stays on while a video plays.
